The Koules (tower) of Meronas is one of the more than 60 forts of similar type, built by the Turks in the 19th century in order to contain the Cretan fighters who had revolted (many atimes) against the Ottoman rule.

Approach to the monument: |
At the northern entrance of the village (from Agia Fotini) there is a junction for apartments Elia. We turn there, pass in front of them and then we turn right uphill. After 1.5 km on dirt road and 200 meters hiking we reach the Koule. |
