A church dedicated to Saint George with fortification elements. It is located at the parking lot of the archaeological site of Faistos, at the western side of the hill of the palace of Faistos.
The church and the ruins around are the remains of a monastic fortified complex which had been constructed during the Venetian occupation in the 16th century.
The initial monastery was built by Osios Ioannis Xenos in the 10th century, but nothing is saved from that first construction except one water tank.
The monastery was destroyed by the Turks in 1821 after the outbreak of the Greek revolution in the mainland.
