Remains of a haunted Venetian tower at the northern side of the village Alikianos in the region of Chania.
During the Venetian occupation, Alikianos was the fief of Da Molin family. The first of the family who came here was Marco da Molin in 1229. It is generally believed that the tower was built then, in the 13th century, but the type of the structure indicates a more recent construction, perhaps in the 14th or 15th century.
Today only the ruins of the southwest corner remain at a length about 14m and at a maximum height of 7m.
The tower was destroyed in 1527 when it became the place of death for many Cretan rebels who were trapped in the tower during a wedding between Sofia the daughter of the local lord Francesco Da Molin and Petros Kantanoleos the son of the leader of the rebellion.
