Northeast of the village Oreino Korakovouni in Arcadia, lies the Byzantine castle of Artikaina.
The history of the castle is unknown. Apparently it was not Frankish since it is not listed in the various inventories. So it must have been a Byzantine fortress, possibly built by the Despots of Mystras.
The castle controlled the mountain roads of the eastern Arcadia and the port of Astros, on the east coast of Peloponnese.
Quite a few elements of the fortification remain today including the keep.
