Remains of a medieval tower at the village Vounoi of Dirfys region in Euboea. It is close to the chapel of the Dormition of Virgin Mary and to the Byzantine church of Agioi Apostoloi.
Information about this particular tower is not available but it must have been part of the network of towers built on the island by the Venetians in the 14th-15th century.
The tower was intervisible contcat with the neighboring tower of Steni and the fortress of Lechries.
Structure, Fortification & Buildings
The tower is preserved at a low height and is difficult to spot. But it retains all its sides.
No openings are observed which is not surprising, since in this type of buildings, the entrance and the windows were usually at the upper floors for safety and better defence.
Dimensions: approx. 5✖5m. The southern side is preserved at a height of ca. 5m and the western at 1 to 4m.
