The tower is in the abandoned settlement Pyrgos-Skounteri, at the foot of the mount Dirfys, 30 km from Chalkis and 7 km from Steni.

Its origin is not known exactly. It is probably from the Ottoman period when it was the seat of the local Aga.

Once a year, a spring village feast takes place in the square around the tower, the main event of which is the exchange of seeds.

It isvery interesting that some old photographs by Theodoros Skouras (May ‘68) show the tower in a much better condition preserved in its full height. Very sad.
