Tamarkou is a medieval village, without inhabitants today, one of several similar villages in Chios.
The main building of the village is the tower of the 15th century. The rest of the village is probably older.
Tamarkou is south of the village Pispilounda in a very beautiful landscape.
The Name of the Castle
The place is referred to also as "Ta Markou". It means "of Markos" which indiacates that it belonged to somone named "Markos", perhaps a Genoan local lord.
Current Condition
What remains today from the tower is the groundfloor and part of the upper structure.
