A ruined, probably Frankish tower in Magganiako of Messinia, very close to the church of the village.
Around the tower there are many stone piles and remains of walls that show that the tower was part of a larger fortification or a settlement.
History
The tower is not mentioned by historical sources. So we know nothing about its history nor the date of its construction.
What we know about the medieval history of Magganiako is that there was a Frankish castlr there, on the hill over the village and at some distance (800m) from the tower in question. The castle is identified with Maconico of the list of the fiefs of 1463 and with Manconico of the list of 1467 (marked as ruined).
It is very possible that the tower was related to the castle. If this is true, then the tower must have been constructed around the 14th century. But we cannot be sure. Perhaps the tower was built later, during the Tourkokratia.
