A monastic complex with fortifications and defensive towers. It was abandoned for more than a century but recently it has been effectively renovated.
It was built during the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos (end of 12th-beginning of 13th century). Since then, the monastery went through six additional construction phases.
Since 2011, restoration works are in progress. Total budget 3 mil euros.

Two alternative routes: 1) Through Androusa, then Kalogerorachi. From the bridge Mami, a new road leads directly to Andromonastiro. 2) Through Ancient Messini, Petralona (approach (from the north) |

The entrance is free (no ticket) but the monastery is not always open. |
