Ruins of a fortification on the NW side of mount Gavrias above the village Asprokampos.
We do not know the history of the place. The type of construction corresponds to a Late-Byzantine period. Maybe it was built in the 14th or early 15th century, a period when the region was disputed between the Byzantines of the Despotate of Mystras and the Franks of the Principality of Achaea.
Structure, Fortification & Buildings
The castle occupies a small plateau on the mountain, inside a perimeter of about 600 meters, which is protected partly by a wall and mostly by cliffs and steep rocks.
Basically there was only one wall 100m long which defended the vulnerable SW side. This wall was built with small stones without mortar and today lies ruined in stone piles 1m high and 2m in width. There is no fortification on the other sides.
