|
Few remains of a tower on a low hill,1700m southwest of the village Kaisari in Corinth region.
We do not know the history of the tower. Also, there are no enough elements on site to draw a safe conclusion about its origin. It could belong to any period: ancient or medieval (Byzantine or Frankish) or post-medieval. We only know that it was in use in the late Byzantine period and perhaps in the Ottoman period. For the moment, it is classified (in this site) as of “unknown origin”.
The name goulas implies a construction after the 13th century, but this is not a safe criterion, as the name could have been applied on an old construction.
The base of the tower was a circle with a diameter of 18m (Peppas, 1990). It is totally destroyed now. What we see today is a pile of stones 8m high, hidden by growth. It had been definitely a large building.
