Argyrokastro (Greek: Αργυρόκαστρο, "silver castle") is a castle in Peloponnese, Greece. It is located in mountainous Arcadia, near the village of Magouliana, at an elevation of 1,450 m. It is also known as the Gortyniako Dynamari which means “Stronghold of Gortynia”.
Some local websites brag that this is the 'highest castle in Peloponnese', but it is actually the highest castle in Greece, from what we know so far.
The castle is not mentioned by sources of the 13th or the 14th century, but it appears in stories about conflicts in the 15th century. It was the most important stronghold of that region (northern part of modern Arcadia prefecture).
Only a few ruins from its walls remain today. It is said that the castle was the summer retreat of the Villehardouin family, the rulers of the Principality of Achaea.
