Ruins of a tower at the location Pyrgaki, on the hill Gerovouno close to the sea, outside the town of Mantoudi. A local website reports that it was constructed in 1215, but this is probably wrong.
The tower cannot be dated with accuracy. There are no historical references. It could be Venetian like the majority of the towers in Euboea, but the construction does not look much like the other Frankish/Venetian towers in the island.
It is definitely medieval but could belong to a period before the Frankish occupation. It may be related to the Mycenaean site of Kirinthos which is on a coastal hill to the north, named “Kastri”. In Kastri, there are remains of Byzantine fortifications as well, the construction of which resembles the construction of the tower of Gerovouno.
The tower will be labeled (reluctantly) “Byzantine” of unknown chronology.
