A square defensive tower in the Galataki monastery complex in northern Evia, not far from the west coast of the island.

The monastery was founded in the 10th century by a shipwrecked seaman from the Galata region of Constantinople, hence the name. It is dedicated to St Nicholas (Agios Nicolaos) the patron-saint of sailors.

The tower was renovated by the monks in the 16th century, after 1562 when the permit by the Ottoman authorities was issued. The document of the permit makes a reference to an older tower in the monastery which was ruined, therefore the reconstruction was justified.

Apparently, the tower was renovated several times since then. Today is covered by a tiled roof and it houses the library of the monastery and holy relics.
