A Frankish castle of which only traces remain today.
It is built in high altitude (almost 1000m), in the place of an older Byzantine fortress.
Kamara is a village of Arcadia, 25km south of Megalopolis. The castle is on a mountain at the east of the village. It dominates over the valley of Karnion and the plateau of Taygetos. The remains of at least 12 churches have been spotted at the location, one of which is Agios Athanassios.
The castle was destroyed with explosives, probably by the Turks. It is not known when and why this happened, but the result is that almost nothing has been left from it.
