Thermi is a region in eastern Lesbos island consisting of three settlements: Loutropolis of Thermi, Pyrgi (towers) of Thermi and Paralia (beach) of Thermi.

In this region, the wealthy of the island built, since the Genoan period, mansions with some defensive characteristics. In the old days there were over 100 towers like this in the region.

Some of them still survive but they have undergone serious modifications during the 20th century.

The tower of Tsoukaladelis at the center of Loutropoli of Thermi is a characteristic example of the towers of this group (and one of the few still standing). It was built, most probably, in the 18th century.

Structure, Fortification & Buildings

The tower is a 4-storey stone building, 11.45 high (without the roof). The layout of the floors is a rectangular measuring (5,10✖5,95m). The last floor was the center of the house and had a characteristic wooden extension (named sachsini, common in the post-byzantine architecture in many parts of Greece) and this resulted to a dimension 5,10✖7,10m.

The roof and the wooden addtion had collapsed, but recently the tower was renovated and it is in a very condition.
