Remains of an unknown castle and of a small medieval settlement over the gorge of the river Neda in SW Peloponnese.
The castle is on an elevated position almost at the center of a triangle formed by the villages Ano Figaleia, Stomion and Platania. It overlooks one of the most beautiful locations of Peloponnese, the gorge and the falls of River Neda.
We know nothing about the history of this castle. The chronology of construction cannot be estimated. The general consensus seems to be that it was a Frankish castle.
Pouqueville (1826-27) was the first who made this hypothesis. Other researchers later did not object this theory, but the truth is that the site was never researched systematically and we cannot be sure about its origin at this point.
What is left today are the ruins of about 20 houses at the SE slope and a small ruined keep at the northern edge with one tower preserved at a maximum height of ca. 3m.
