A defensive tower of the 16th century in the monastery of Saint Panteleimon, west of the village Megalo Chorio of Telos island.
The monastery is on a steep rocky slope in northwestern Telos, 270m above sea level. The location offers some natural protection, as the access is difficult.
The monastery was founded by the monk Ionas, probably in the 14th century but it was destroyed soon afterwards. It was rebuilt again after 1480 following the victory of the Christian forces against the Turks who tried to take the island of Rhodes. The building activity of this second phase peaked in the first half of 16th century and in this period, most probably, the tower was built.
The tower is in good condition and apparently has undergone through repeated repairs and restoration, but it retains -more or less- the form of the original structure of the 16th century.
