The only Frankish tower in west Attica. There is another Frankish tower in Attica in another village which is named also Oinoe (!), near Marathon.

Oinoe is at a strategic location on the route, through the mountains, to Viotia. However the tower has probably been the house or the watchtower of the local lord. It is not a powerful enough fortification to control the road but was suitable for surveying the surrounding fields.

Structure, Fortification & Buildings

It is a building with a rectangular layout, measuring 8.5✖7.0m. It is preserved at a maximum height of about 5 m. The entrance opening was at a higher levela and is not preserved. Apparently, it was located at a height higher than what the building survives today.
The openings on the west and south sides of the ground floor are later. They were opened to serve the occupants of the building in the following centuries.
On the first floor, on the north wall, there is a slotted window-loop, while on the second floor, a similar window opens on the east wall.
Research in the surrounding area has brought to light ceramics and other findings dating from the 13th century to the Tourkokratia.
