A small castle and settlement. The settlement was founded around the 13th century.
The fortification was built probably in the beginning of the 15th century or a little earlier. It is one of the few castles that were built by the rulers of the Despotate of Mystras (another one was the castle of Zarafona ).
The name “Molaoi” dirives from Myloi (meaning “mills” from the watermills in the area) and it is documented for the first time in 1445 in an argyrovoulo of the Despot Theodoros Paleologos.
