A big square tower on the rocks of the first cape to the north of Monemvasia.
The name of the cape and of the little settlement nearby is “Palia Monemvasia.”
We do not know more about this buiding. It is reasonable to assume it was part of the defensive system of the magnificent fortress-state of Monemvasia.
Most fortifications in that part of Laconia belong to the Paleologian period (14th or 15th cent.) but this one looks newer. It could have been a construction of the second Venetian occupation of Moreas (1690-1715). But this is just a hypothesis.
