There is no information about this little fortress.
The purpose of the fortress was to survey the bays of Vlichada and Palouggeri and protect the rich region (producing the famous wine Malvazia) against pirate raids.
Most probably it was built in the Late-Byzantine period (around 14th century) when the area was part of the Despotate of Mystras (from 1260 until the Ottoman conquest).
