This is the oldest tower-house of Naxos. It is dated back in the 14th century.
In the beginning of the 18th century, it belonged to the Somarippa family. This is certified by an inscription on a marble table: 1727 D.P.SCNOSPA . Later, around the end of the 18th century the ownership passed to Georgakis Fragkopoulos. the current owner is Ioannis Dellarocas
The Fragkopoulos family were Greek Fanariotes from Constantinople who in the 17th century preferred to become subjects of the Venetian democracy denouncing Orthodoxy and converting to Catholicism. They came to Naxos in 1628. Count Georgakis Fragkopoulos (nicknamed Aga) had bought also the tower of Barozzi in 1795. In that tower, the Frangopoulos coat-of-arms sign is still preserved above the main entrance.
