An Ottoman bastion at the coastal area 'Pefkakia' of the city of Preveza.
History
The bastion of Vrysoula is what remains from the Moat of Preveza which was one of the fortifications constructed by Ali pasha in Preveza after 1807. The moat was 4km long and 8m wide, running along the internal coastline of the Ambrakian gulf. It started from the bastion of Vrysoula at the north of the city and ended a little after the fortress of Agios Georgios at the south.
The moat was actually a low seaside fortification wall with elevated walled sides and bastions at some points. Nothing remains today from the moat (except the Vrysoula bastion) because the structure was not well supported and started to collapse soon after its construction.
