Few Remains

Few remains of a Byzantine castle that was used also by the Ottomans later. Further information is not available.
Probably the purpose of the small fort was to guard the secondary passage (north of Egnatia) from Macedonia to Thrace between the mountain above and the plain below which used to be a lake.
From the castle, only a few scattered ruins are visible today. The perimeter of the castle was 300m enclosing an area of 3200 sq.m. At the NE corner there are the remains of a cistern.

From Thessaloniki follow direction to Lagadas to the north, then to Sohos and to Mavrouda; before the junction to the village, on a hill 300m from the road (left side), you will see the ruins of the castle |
