Remains of a byzantine square tower at the archaeological site of Kynos in Fthiotida.
Location & Strategic Scope
The tower is next to the excavation of the ancient citadel. p>
The settlement of Kynos is located at the beach of Livanates. The area was inhabited since the Neolithic Age to the Byzantine period.
It is on a coastal low hill named 'Pyrgos'. 3 km NE of Livanates.
History
The tower is not Frankish. The time of its construction is unknown. Maybe it was built in the early-Byzantine period with several modifications afterwards.
Very close there is the church of Agioi Theodoroi. The first construction phase of the church dates from the 11th century. Perhaps the tower was also built around the 11th century.
