On a hill east of the lake Dystos, a little lower from the “waist” of Evia island, are the ruins of the acropolis of ancient Dystos.
Apparently the Venetians appreciated the location of the acropolis and around the 15th century (or earlier) built a small fortress and this tower. The tower had visual contact with other towers in the area like the Kutumula tower .
The dimensions of the tower were 7.20mx4.90m. Today only the SE corner remains in the original height while the remains of the other walls are scattered on the hill. An old picture (see above) shows that five decades ago the tower was in better condition.
