Stageira, the birthplace of Aristotle, is the most important archaeological site of Chalkidiki. It is located on a small penisnula near the village Olympiada in NE Chalkidiki.
The emphasis of the research and the development of the site is on the classical period. But the reason that this ancient city is included in Kastrologos is that the walls and the fortifications in the perimeter of the hill (actually the most visible parts of the place) are from the Middle Ages.
It is known that during the Byzantine period, around 1000 AD, a small castle existed there named Livasdia or Lipsasda.
