Old tower house on a low rise in the plain NE from Nea Selefkia near Igoumenitsa and south from the village of Kestrini.
The old name of Kestrini was Skoupitsa (until 1919).
We do not know anything about the history of the building. It has no obvious fortifications, but it can clearly be described as a “tower house”.
From the form and construction style we conclude that it is an Ottoman building. These types of towers existed in Turkish etstaes (chiflik) all over Greece from the 17th to the 19th century and were used to guard the harvest and for the residence (temporary or permanent) of the landowner and his estate custodians.
The most likely date of construction is the end of the 18th century with the beginning of the 19th.
