North of the artificial Lake Trihonida, at the center of the small town of Paravola, there is a hill on top of which are the ruins of the ancient Etolic fortress Voukation. In the ruins of the fortress today, there are visible elements from various periods: ancient, Byzantine and Ottoman.
The walls are definitely ancient while the various towers are Byzantine.
