Remains of a fortification wall on a hill overlooking the beaches of Platia Ammos and Kokkino Nero at the coast of Larissa in Thessaly.

The wall is medieval but it has never been researched systematically and we do not know its history. Some scholars believe that here was the ancient city of Evrymenai, that existed until the 5th centuryy AD. But this is not certain. In any case, the fortification belongs to the early-Byzantine period. It is possible to be of the same period with the neighboring castle of Velica the construction and position of which has many similarities. I

Apparently the settlement and its fortification was abandoned after the 7th century, probably because of the Slavic raids.

The only visible part of the fortification is a wall about 50m long preserved to a considerable height. Possibly there are other parts hidden in the dense vegetation.

In 2012 a group of students from the university of Thessaloniki searched the place for 5 days (!) and discovered some additional elements such as two cisterns, part of a tower and a staircase.

The wall that is preserved and visible today was part of the south curtain wall. The fortification must have protected the entire hill, so we are in position to make the reasonable assumption that the perimeter of the initial wall was around 800m enclosing an area of ca. 4.5 hectares.
