A tower on a deserted islet of the lagoon of Tholi. The lagoon of Tholi is part of the system of the Missolonghi Lagoon.
The tower is part of the small and abandoned monastic complex of Aï-Giannis which was a dependency of the Monastery of Taxiarches (located at an air-distance of 2,5km to the north).
The tower is unusually large and well fortified (for the place and the period). We do not know anything about its history, but it is reasonable to assume that its construction is related to the similar tower-abbey of the Monastery of Taxiarches for which it is known that it was finished in 1742. So, most probably, the tower was built around the same period.
