A tower in one of the most important Byzantine monuments of northern Greece: the monastery of Timios Prodromos. It is located in a picturesque valley 12km northeast of the city of Serres.
The tower housed the library of the monastery.
The monastery was built in 1270. It took its final form around 1300 when most of the buildings finished. The tower was built in 1304.
It is similar to other towers that were built in the Late-Byzantine period, especially with those in Athos mountain, such as the Tower of Milutin and the towers of Hilandar monastery.
