A small round tower on a coastal hill north of Methoni. It is above a small bay with a narrow opening, forming a body of shallow sea water that looks like a lake and it is called “Lake of the Priest” (in Greek, “Limni Papa”).
It is a compact construction of circular layout with a diameter of 3.90m and 1,80m tall (now). It dates back to the first centuries of the Byzantine period. It was part of a network of castles and watchtowers along the coast between Pylos and Methoni.
It was a watchtower and probably a fryktoria (tower with a system of torches at the top for exchanging messages).
