Scattered ruins of a castle on a small peninsula of the northwestern coast of Lesvos island. The ancient city Antissa was located here and later a byzantine fortress-state named “Agii Theodori”. Later the Genoan rulers rebuilt the castle which became known as Ovriokastro (“Jews’ castle”) and flourished until the Ottoman conquest in 1462.

Some time later, for unknown reasons, this once great city was completely destroyed. It was last mentioned, as a place, in an Ottoman document of 1602.

Structure, Fortification & Buildings

The layout of the castle was a pentagon covering an area of 35,114 sq.m. The perimeter is 626m.
Its lenght is 181 meters and its maximum width -in the middle- 191 metres.
