A tower overlooking the beaches Memi and Agios Georgios in southern Messinia, between Vasilitsi and Koroni. It is close to the church of Agios Georgios and this is the reason that the locals know it more by the name “Koulas of Agios Georgios”.
It is visible from the castle of Koroni and was probably a watchtower (vigla). Its construction is similar to the vigla in Finikounda. Both towers must have been part of the defense system of the region facilitating the communication between the two big castles Methoni and Koroni in cooperation with a third intermediate vigla in cape Akritas.
We do not have info for an accurate dating of the construction of the tower in Memi. Considering the history of this part of Peloponnese, the tower was most probably Venetian, built around the 14th century.
