Ancient Filippi is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece.
The Acropolis of Filippi is on a hill above the main site. Its is an ancient acropolis dated back to 4th century BC. It has passed several construction phases, one of them being the Byzantine fortification of the 10th century, some remains of which are still visible today.
The tower is from the late-Byzantine reriod (around the 14th century).
