A monastery built on the ruins of an old Venetian castle.
It is located on a rocky hill (240m) with a panoramic view, near the village Ano Gazea in Pelion, 20km south of Volos.
It is a metochi or annex to the monastery of Agia Lavra of Athos.
The initial castle was built, most probably in the 13th century and it was destroyed by the Catalans (of the Catalan Company) in 1310. The monastery was founded there in 1816.
