The monastery of Panagia Eleousa is south of the village Lygia in western Peloponnese.
The monastery was founded in the 9th century after the discovery of the icon of Virgin Mary in the nearby cave.
The monastery prospered for many centuries but in 1683 it was pillaged by pirates. After that it was rebuilt and its defense was reinforced by a wall and this tower.
