A monastery in Serifos which was built in 1572. It is dedicated to the taxiarchs, i.e. the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. It was founded after the icon of the Archangels was brought to Serifos from Cyprus after the Ottoman conquest.
The taxiarchs became the patrons of the island and the monastery became very rich and the most important ecclesiastic foundation there.
The monastery was built like a fortress because of the pirates threat. The old entrance was 4 meters above the ground. The walls were thick and tall with few and small openings.
